PVC Edge Band tapes category is witnessing quick movement and growth. Since the arrival of lower thickness category, demand for Edge banding apes has noticed a sharp jump. Edge Band tapes are used for concealing the edges of furniture and panels to give a clean wood appearance. With growing uses of decorative surfaces and want of 'matching side finish' in furniture making, the contractors/carpenters have become the most frequent users for Edge Band tapes. The fast growth in retail sales/market of edge band has created a new segment that is driven by cheap imports and domestic manufacturers through plywood shops and retailing.

At present, domestic PVC edge band players are matching the designs and colours very closely with all popular colours of laminates and prelam which has given a boost supported by availability of smaller length packing. Smaller companies are launching new colours/styles very frequently.

The rolls of '50 meter' and now even in 25 meters are introduced to capture the smallest possible market prospect. Small packing has also helped retailers to minimize their investment on stock. All these factors have brought down the cost of edge banding per furniture and is well supported by material availability on stock points.

The international edge band producers offer Edge Band Rolls in at least 100 meter or plus length. The quality consistency, quality assurance and color matching consistency have been on high standards in brands like Rehau, Dolken etc. These tapes perform very well during machine operations and OEM needs. Hence the machine operated furniture makers prefer to use tapes from these high quality international brands. The material compositions of European edge bands too are different compared to cheap imported ones that is a reason why organised and medium size furniture makers opt for branded tapes.
