Trends that Stimulates the Demand for Sofas in India

Throwing light on the sofa upholstery trends, Sabharwal asserts, “Natural sofa fabrics like linen and boucle made a huge comeback this year. With a well-travelled consumer base, brands are aware of people’s constantly evolving choices, so sofa seating has become a topic of discussion during the design process. The pattern play, bright colours, or embroidered weaves consolidate to make a glamourous appeal to the living area.”

"For the current sofa trend, we’ve stocked up on various velvet fabrics and innovated with different finishes on metal, gold, rose gold, etc. Fabrics which are water-proof, stain-resistant, etc are gaining a lot of importance, so are lighter colour woods and bright fabrics."

“For the current sofa trend, we’ve stocked up on various velvet fabrics and innovated with different finishes on metal, gold, rose gold, etc. Fabrics which are water-proof, stain-resistant, etc are gaining a lot of importance, so are lighter colour woods and bright fabrics,” informs Mr Tejesh Todi, Designer and Operations Head, Cane Boutique.

Driving Factors

The boom in real estate has seen a drastic rise in home decor enthusiasts, and hence the residential sector is drawing a major demand for sofa seating. “With increased exposure to the outside world and time trend updates via social media platforms, it has become convenient for people to revamp and style their interiors,” informs Choudhary.

As per HomeAdvisor’s report, the increasing wave of millennials buying homes, particularly older homes, which require more refurbishment, is boosting the growth of the sofa and couch segment across the globe. The sofa and couch segment is, thus, projected to register a CAGR of 6.9 per cent from 2022 to 2030.

Although the residential sector dominates the sofa segment, Kohli notifies a lot of growth and uptick from the commercial sector as well. “Spaces, especially in hospitality and other consumer experience-focused businesses are no longer meant to be inconspicuous. Today restaurants, showrooms and even some younger corporate offices are using sofas rather than individual chairs as a symbol of informality and collaboration.”

The growth in the furniture market is also being driven by other factors including the growth of the hospitality sector, developments in the commercial construction industry and growing demand for premium and luxury furniture across the world.
