Zaha Hadid Design has revealed its new Seyun chair and table collection at the ongoing Milan Design Week at the Museo Bagatti Valsecchi. The collection consists of a chair, an armchair and a table in different sizes, all made by Japanese wooden furniture maker Karimoku for Zaha Hadid Design. Here is a detailed report on FURNITURE DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY (FDT).
The Seyun chair is made from turned wood and has a distinctive gap where the pieces meet. The Seyun line is the international launch of the collection, which was designed to be practical, comfortable and durable for everyday use. The project was initiated before the death of the studio’s founder, architect Zaha Hadid, in 2016, and was one piece she was keen on getting produced.
The Seyun chair and armchair are available with both natural and metallic colour finishes, while the table comes in two sizes that can be combined as a modular design to create larger units for office use. The collaboration between Karimoku and Zaha Hadid Design, thus, aims to create furniture that can stand the test of time.
