In celebration of its decade-long journey, Portuguese design brand Dam has introduced a cork-clad rocking chair inspired by the aesthetics of seaplanes. The Gago rocking chair echoes the rounded contours of an aviator’s helmet, paying homage to the historic 1922 south Atlantic crossing by a Portuguese pilot and navigator. Know more about it on FURNITURE DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY (FDT).
Each Gago rocking chair bears a label on its back, commemorating the 1922 journey covering 8383km from Lisbon to Rio de Janeiro. The chair’s outer shell is crafted from natural cork for its visual appeal, soft texture, and antibacterial qualities, while the seat’s interior is upholstered in Burel fabric, a woolen material.
According to the brand, both materials are entirely Portuguese, 100 per cent natural, eco-friendly, and resilient. The Gago rocking chair’s base features dual rockers and can be customized in ash, oak or walnut with a clear varnish finish. The Burel fabric offers a choice of five colour options, namely, Serene Beige, Sleepy Green, Deep Blue, Fond Orange and Luxury Red.
