Fire Destroys Baltana Furniture Market Causing Significant Damage

A fire engulfed over 24 kiosks and temporary structures in the Baltana furniture market, causing significant damage with goods worth lakhs destroyed. Reports suggest that the blaze, attributed to a short-circuit, rapidly spread due to high temperatures and flammable materials like paint and varnish.

It took 12 fire engines more than an hour to extinguish the fire, with local residents assisting firefighters. Eyewitnesses reportedly noted that around 50 illegal structures had been erected in the area. As per reports, a fire officer indicated that an investigation is ongoing, and the landowner may face action for the lack of firefighting arrangements. The frequent fire incidents in Baltana are attributed to lax enforcement of fire safety norms, illegal structures and high population density.
