Thane (Mumbai): Proprietor of a furniture company has been booked for placing “coronavirus-resistant mattress” advertisement in 13 edition of a daily newspaper. The Narpoli police, Bhiwandi have registered an FIR against the owner of a furniture gallery located at Chamunda complex, a major furniture hub in Bhiwandi, Thane district.
As per reports, the half page advertisement was placed on 13 March and titled, “Anti CoronaVirus Mattress pe soyega India toh badhega India”. In Ad, the mattress’s price was also quoted Rs. 15,000 along with five year warranty. Picture of sofa and bed was also shown in advertisement. After the publication of advertisement in newspaper, the picture of Ad went viral on different social media platforms.
Police have registered a FIR against the proprietor of the said furniture company, who placed ad in newspaper, after receiving a complaint from a Doctor of local Primary Healthcare Centre, Bhiwandi. The accused was booked under the Indian Penal Code, and sections of the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act. Although, accused not arrested yet as investigation was in progress.
