New ‘Carlton Luxury Furniture’ venture will focus on sustainable, design-led pieces, with 600 showrooms planned across 300 cities in five years through a franchise-led model, reports Furniture Design & Technology (FDT)
India’s fast-evolving home interiors and furniture market is set to welcome a new global player, with British lifestyle brand Carlton London announcing its entry into the country’s luxury furniture space through a strategic partnership with multi-sector Indian conglomerate EBG Group. The collaboration has led to the launch of Carlton Luxury Furniture, a new brand that aims to blend international design with sustainability, longevity, and conscious living for Indian homes.
Unveiled in early May in the presence of Carlton London Founder Carl Virk and EBG Group Founder and Chairman Dr. Irfan Khan, the venture is positioned in the premium and luxury furniture segment, targeting design-conscious consumers across metros and emerging cities. Under the model, products will be designed in London but manufactured in India, primarily through facilities in Hyderabad and other locations, supported by contract manufacturing partners to meet local preferences and customization demands.
Backed by an aggressive expansion blueprint, Carlton Luxury Furniture plans to roll out 600 franchise showrooms across 300 cities over the next five years, relying on a franchise-led growth strategy. The company expects the initiative to attract investments in the range of ₹1,800–2,000 crore from franchise partners and generate close to 12,000 jobs across India, creating opportunities for local entrepreneurs and MSMEs in the furniture and allied services ecosystem.
According to EBG Group, the furniture line will focus on lightweight, structurally engineered and highly customisable products with faster delivery timelines, aligning with the needs of urban Indian consumers and designers. The venture is also building a strong after-sales backbone, leveraging a network of nearly 2,600 service partners across the country to handle maintenance and support.
Sustainability is a core pillar of the new brand’s proposition, with plans for buyback and refurbishment programmes, recycling solutions, and resale channels for pre-owned furniture. Under this model, customers will be able to sell back furniture after a few years of use, subject to condition checks, enabling products to be refurbished, reused, or responsibly recycled rather than discarded.
Dr. Irfan Khan noted that the initiative reflects a shift in how Indian consumers approach furniture, moving from one-time purchases to more thoughtful, lifecycle-based decisions that prioritise durability and environmental responsibility. Carl Virk added that Carlton London is extending its legacy from fashion and lifestyle into furniture by offering pieces that combine timeless elegance, craftsmanship, and premium materials with eco-conscious production practices tailored for the Indian market.
Industry estimates cited by EBG suggest that India’s furniture market could touch around USD 45 billion by 2030, driven by rising incomes, urbanisation and a growing appetite for branded, design-driven home solutions. With Carlton Luxury Furniture, the partners are betting on this trajectory, positioning the brand as a differentiated, sustainable luxury player in an increasingly competitive category.
