Swiss company NaturLoop is pioneering eco-friendly solutions by harnessing agricultural byproducts and natural adhesives to create innovative biocomposite products. Their flagship innovation, Cocoboard, crafted from coconut husk fibers and tannin extracts, offers a versatile solution for both furniture and interior architecture. The process begins with the extraction of coconut fiber, or coir, from coconut husks, which are often discarded as agricultural waste. NaturLoop combines this fiber with a proprietary bio-based adhesive, transforming it into Cocoboard. With approximately 21 million tonnes of unused coconut husks globally, NaturLoop’s initiative not only repurposes these husks but also uplifts the livelihoods of coconut farmers, who are often among the poorest in the agricultural sector.

Partnering with local supply chain teams in the Philippines, NaturLoop ensures the direct involvement of farming communities in husk collection and transportation, providing them with additional income streams. Plans to extend this impact to regions like India and Africa are reportedly underway, amplifying the social benefits of the initiative.

Beyond its social impact, Cocoboard exemplifies sustainability through upcycling waste materials and utilizing readily available resources. Natural adhesives ensure minimal environmental impact and non-toxic emissions, enhancing its eco-friendly profile. Cocoboard panels boast superior mechanical properties, including biodegradability, termite resistance and moisture resistance.
