StoneCycling and Circular Matters unveiled CornWall, a groundbreaking tile and sheet material crafted from organic waste, notably corncob cores, sourced from Western Europe. This innovative product serves as a natural alternative to fossil-based plastics and resins, addressing environmental concerns with its CO2-neutral footprint and biodegradability. Know more about it on FURNITURE DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY (FDT).
CornWall is not only environmentally friendly but also versatile and cost-effective. With a demountable anchoring system, it offers flexibility in interior design, ideal for contemporary schemes. Its moisture-repellent bio-coating and vibrant colour options make it suitable for various vertical wall finishing applications, including walls, backsplashes, and panelling in spaces like bars and hotel rooms.
Produced in a sustainable manner at a sheltered workshop in Antwerp, Belgium, CornWall undergoes a pressing process using only organic materials heated with sustainable energy, primarily from solar panels. Additionally, Circular Matters plans to implement a recycling scheme, ensuring a circular lifecycle for the product.
The initial CornWall collection features one texture, eight colours and two sizes, with more textures on the horizon. Custom options are also available, catering to diverse design needs and preferences. Under the creative direction of Studio Nina van Bart, CornWall promises to redefine sustainable materials in interior design.
