Railway-Inspired Lighting Collection | Insulator Lighting Series

British design studio Novocastrian recently introduced a lighting collection that draws inspiration from railway equipment and infrastructure. The Insulator lighting series includes pendant, table, and sconce lights, all featuring ribbed motifs and polished hardware. Know more about it on FURNITURE DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY (FDT).

According to Novocastrian, its founder Richy’s design concept was influenced by frequent train journeys along Britain’s East Coast mainline, specifically the lattice of overhead power lines and the pin insulators. Each light in the collection is crafted from pressed glass and solid brass, machined in the studio’s North East England workshop. The lighting fixtures are available with North American or European wiring, and custom finishes can be requested. The materials used are brass and pressed glass, offered in polished or dark waxed brass finishes.

The dimensions of each piece can be customized in millimeters for width, depth and height, catering to varied design needs. This thoughtful integration of functional elements and refined design not only pays homage to the industrial heritage but also brings a sophisticated, artisanal touch to modern interiors. The collection exemplifies Novocastrian’s commitment to craftsmanship and innovation, ensuring each piece is both a functional light source and a work of art.
