Urban Architecture Meets Home Decor through City Block Collection

FDT Bureau

Local designer Micah Rosenblatt launched the City Block collection, a series of steel and glass furniture pieces inspired by New York City’s architectural styles. The collection includes 16 items such as a dining table, chairs, floor lamps and a loveseat, all featuring light green automotive paint. Rosenblatt, primarily a metalworker, aims to translate the city’s skyline into smaller, domestic forms. The lamps, for example, create a mini skyline using geometric shapes and stacked glass bricks encased in steel frames. Know more about it on FURNITURE DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY (FDT).

Key pieces include the Volute Lamp, topped with an Ionic column capital, and the Column and High Rise Column chairs, which share this column-like motif. The Forum dining table features a unique design with stacked steel cylinders and a central glass-covered trough that can hold decorative items. Rosenblatt’s work highlights metal’s strength and versatility, creating pieces that appear delicate despite their robust material. Other notable items in the collection are the Glass Block chair and the Orbital Plane loveseat, both incorporating glass bricks and steel spheres.
