Nitori, Japan's leading furniture and home furnishing retailer, has inaugurated its first store in India at R City Mall, Ghatkopar, Mumbai. Covering 32,000 sq. ft., this store marks Nitori's debut in India’s $23.9 billion home furnishings market (Ken Research), presenting a variety of premium furniture and decor at competitive prices.
This opening is a milestone in Nitori’s ambitious plan to achieve 3,000 stores globally by 2032. Situated in the expansive 1.2 million sq. ft. R City Mall, which boasts over 350 premium brands and welcomes 1 million monthly visitors, the store enjoys a prime location for visibility. The grand launch featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony, a cultural program, and an extensive display of Nitori’s product offerings.
Masanori Takeda, Executive Vice President overseeing Overseas Businesses at Nitori Holdings Co., Ltd., shared his enthusiasm for the brand’s Indian foray. He remarked, “This store is significant as it marks our entry into the Indian market, an important one for us. It aligns with our mission to enrich the homes of people worldwide, catering to the unique needs of Indian homes. We are committed to creating a safe and welcoming space for customers seeking premium quality.”
The store offers a diverse range of products, including sofas, dining tables, kitchen cabinets, beds, curtains, carpets, bedding, and dishes, all conveniently available under one roof.
Nitori Group is targeting aggressive expansion, with plans to establish 280 stores by 2032, focusing heavily on the Asian market. By the end of FY2024, the brand aims to operate approximately 100 stores outside Japan. While specific strategies for the Indian market remain undisclosed, the Mumbai store sets a promising foundation for growth in the region.
