Designer Rio Kobayashi’s debut solo exhibition at the London Design Festival, titled Manus Manum Lavat, showcased collaborative creations with artist and designer friends in a convivial living room setting. The exhibition, held at Cromwell Place from September 16 to 24, featured innovative works such as a colourful modular sofa and a dining table adorned with a tuna fish motif. Kobayashi aimed to emphasize the role of friendship in his creative process, aligning with the festival’s theme of Conviviality – The Art of Living Together. The Latin phrase Manus Manum Lavat symbolized working together for mutual benefit, reflecting the spirit of collaboration in the post-Covid era. Key pieces included the Fatty Tuna dining table, the Piece of Cake Sofa and unique furniture transformations. Music and audio products by Wiener Lautsprecher Manufaktur complemented the exhibition’s relaxed ambiance.
