Canadian studio Omar Gandhi Architects recently introduced a new series of lighting designs, including the Brick Light, intended for seamless integration into masonry walls. Displayed alongside the 18 Ga tube chandelier in a Toronto installation, these lights were developed in collaboration with metalworks Filo Timo and lighting producer Aaline. The Brick Light features a metal frame and mesh surface, available in two sizes, offering a blend of architectural metalwork and brick simplicity. The 18 Ga lamp uses industrial-grade metal cladding as a reflector, with options for customization. Both designs were showcased in an installation called Electric at Mason Studio, emphasizing their urban and natural context.
Omar Gandhi Architects, led by principal Omar Gandhi, sought to create products that integrate with the urban environment while also providing flexibility and customization. The Brick Light and 18 Ga chandelier demonstrate a thoughtful approach to blending industrial materials with everyday use, enhancing both indoor and outdoor spaces. The installation also featured natural elements like lichen to create a balanced and harmonious setting, softening the hard architectural elements. This project is part of OGA’s broader exploration into furniture and lighting design, emphasizing joy in design and the urgency of innovation.
