Dulux recently announced its Colour of the Year for 2025, a vibrant and uplifting shade of yellow named True Joy. This bold, sunny hue has been selected for its ability to infuse interiors with a sense of cheerfulness and positivity. According to Dawn Scott, Dulux’s senior colour designer, True Joy is intended to inspire individuals to step out of their comfort zones, embrace new challenges, and cultivate confidence. Know more about it on FURNITURE DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY (FDT).
The selection of True Joy followed an extensive collaboration with trend forecasting experts at ColourFutures. Their analysis, which spanned various fields including design, architecture, journalism and technology, identified three significant trends: the thrill of venturing into the unknown, the celebration of handcrafted artistry, and a renewed appreciation for heritage. These themes influenced the choice of True Joy, a colour that reflects these trends and fosters spaces where people can feel inspired, creative and connected to their identities.
True Joy is envisioned as a catalyst for a collective yearning for change and reconnection, particularly in an age increasingly dominated by technology and artificial intelligence. This colour is expected to encourage bold choices and create environments that are both adventurous and grounded in human creativity. In addition to True Joy, Dulux has also introduced three complementary colour palettes to enhance interior designs. The Bold Colour Story pairs True Joy with vivid blues and oranges, ideal for stimulating creativity in educational and office spaces. The Human Colour Story incorporates neutral tones reminiscent of wood and clay, suited for adding warmth to educational and healthcare environments. Meanwhile, the Proud Colour Story features rich browns and greens, perfect for creating inviting atmospheres in hospitality and residential settings.
True Joy represents a dramatic departure from the softer shades chosen for previous years, such as the pale yellow Wild Wonder for 2023 and the soft pink Sweet Embrace for 2024, marking a vibrant and exciting shift in Dulux’s colour selections.
