Veneers: With the material, the finishing of the material is equally important, which is done by the use of luxe veneers in furniture. High end veneers and exotic veneers are one of the key players in the luxury furniture market.
Talking about the various finishes available in veneers, Rahul Bansal, Partner, groupDCA shares, “When it comes to the finishing of the product, a lot of finishes are available like PU finish. Usually, we prefer satin/matte PU finish. A lot of brands in the country offer different textures and finishes in veneer. “PU (Polyurethane) finishes are extremely popular due to their water-resistant properties. It’s always nice even when used in volume, says Rishabh.
Shami Goregaoker, Design Director, GA design also approving this statement saying, “veneer with different patterns and dyes having matte PU finish has gained immense popularity recently.” Underlining the innovative natural finishes and textures, Meenu Agarwal - Founder & Interior Designer, MADS Creations informs, “Innovations in the manufacturing of veneers have thrown up many new textures and finishes, some of which mimic natural materials, “For example, stone veneer has the appeal of natural stone, an age-old material. It is a thinner and more versatile product, which we are able to use in furniture for vertical applications like shutters, drawer fascia, etc.
Sachin & Neha also enlightened about a range of high quality veneers, including decorative, fluted and textured, that has been changing the face of modern furniture today.
Matte finishes are on the rise when it comes to finishes conveys Meera Pyarelal - Founder & Interior Designer, Temple Town. She also says that curved furniture with soft lines and veneers with textures are also on rage. Apart from this ergonomics and space saving modular fittings are also prevalent.
Saba Kapoor - Co-founder & Designer, Nivasa also expresses, “Embossed and 3D veneers are a new trending material. They add an additional layer of texture to the wood.”
Pre-finished veneers are also in trending as they have high quality consistent finish and consume less time in application. Pointing out the advantages of pre finished veneer, Meenu Agarwal expounds, “Pre-finished veneer offers many different styles and ease of maintenance. It withstands heat, water, chemical cleaning, and is scratch-resistant and flame-retardant. Molding is being used for highlighting in furniture. Wooden moldings of half inch and one inch are being extensively used, contributing to art deco furniture. Fluting has been in trend for quite some time but it is getting evolved as it is now available in not only wood finish but various other finishes like stone and leather, etc.”
Talking about the patterned veneers, Khushboo Khandelwal, Founder, Studio Design Inc, says “Simple materials like wood or veneer are used with contemporary twists and turns. The old art of paper Origami is being experimented currently with wood as well as with metal. Treated and patterned Veneers with unique treatments are coming up with a variety of options to choose from, and are used for walls, wardrobes, and other finishes.”
