MATECIA 2023: A Grand Success Redefining the Building & Interior Products Industry of India

Spanning a vast 300,000 square feet area, the second edition of MATECIA Exhibition India served as an extensive platform for over 300 exhibitors at Pragati Maidan Delhi from September 22nd to 24th, 2023, achieving unprecedented success. With an impressive attendance of over 45,000 visitors, it was evident that MATECIA was simply irresistible. Notably, among these attendees were around 15,000 architects and designers who brought their unique perspectives to enrich the event.

MATECIA Exhibition’s global significance was reaffirmed as more than 45000 visitors flocked from 600+ Indian cities and 20 foreign countries. The three-day extravaganza unfolded across seven halls, where four mega conferences ran concurrently, creating a fertile ground for knowledge sharing and networking with who’s who of the industry. This grand event, held in conjunction with the likes of WADE ASIA Mega Architecture Event, India Furniture Conclave (IFC), and India Interior Retailing (IIR), acted as a magnetic force in the business of Furniture, Interior & Architecture products for India and neighboring countries. MATECIA was awarded the prestigious ‘Star Debut Award’ through a tough national competition with international jury.

Innovative products, intensive knowledge sessions, and a substantial turnout of relevant visitors, attendees, and delegates have collectively transformed MATECIA EXHIBITION into a dynamic catalyst for shaping the future of building materials. “My compliments to Pragathji and team for creating such an excellent event. Adding a dash of innovation to the mix, MATECIA Exhibition had MATERIAL ADDA, a curated collection of innovative materials from the building materials sector as well as highlights from MATECIA exhibitors. In its second edition, MATECIA underwent a remarkable transformation, doubling in size compared to the previous year and expanding its product range showcased by diverse vendors. The products showcased ranged from furniture, hardware, windows, doors, architectural boards, wood panel, decorative laminates, machinery, edge bands, best of surfaces, and more.

The conference sessions at MATECIA and concurrent events like WADE ASIA, India Furniture Conclave (IFC), and India Interior Retailing (IIR) played pivotal roles. These sessions featured renowned industry experts, disseminating invaluable knowledge.

They covered a wide range of topics curated perfectly by the Knowledge partners, SURFACES REPORTER ®, Furniture Design & Technology and Ply Reporter, which collectively have more than 23 years of experience as media and magazines in this domain.

For instance, IFC that is India Furniture Conclave delved deep into essential topics, including the ‘Business of Furniture in India 2023-2027,’ ‘Scope and Trends of High-End Residential & Commercial Furniture in the Indian Market,’ and ‘Consumer Mindset in Big Metros & Tier II Cities.’ Esteemed panelists, in the IFC Conclave included Mr. Andre Eckholt, MD, Hettich India, Mr. Tejas Timbadia, Director, The Colosseum, Mr. Deepak Sapru, AVP, Sales & Marketing, Godrej & Boyce Mgf, Ms. Sapna Aggarwal, Founder, Ansa Interiors, Ar. Santha Gour, Director, Infiniti Design Studio, Ms. Sukriti Sharrma from PLÜSCH, Saurabh Jain, Co-Founder and CEO India, LIVSPACE, and Ar. Alhad Gore, Managing Partner Beyond Design Architects and Consultants among others.

WADE ASIA 2023 featured top notch professionals from the architecture, design and allied industries. CEO of Cybertecture,

Ar. James Law, who traveled from Hong Kong, spoke on ‘The Future of Architecture’ captivated the audience with his presentation on ‘Architecture 2.0: The Time Machine to the Future’. WADE ASIA 2023 featured signature sessions like ‘Masterclass with Mentors’, ‘Business Intelligence in Design’ and ‘WADE ASIA Change Maker’, which captured the undivided attention of the attendees. Distinguished panellists in the different sessions included Ar. Sonali Rastogi, Co- Founding Partner of Morphogenesis, Ar. Bobby Mukherji, Principal Architect, Bobby Mukherji & Associates; Ms. Yukti Nagpal, Director, Gulshan Group; Dr Ananta Singh Raghuvanshi, Founder & President, NAREDCO - MAHI; Ar. Chitra Vishwanath, Principal Architect and Managing Director, BIOME Environment Solutions, and more.

The event received support from various associations, including Institute of Indian Interior Designers (IIID) Raipur Centre, IIID Vizag Centre and IIID Jaipur Regional Chapter, IIA (Indian Institute of Architects) Jharkhand Chapter and IIA Rajasthan Chapter, CAPEXIL, BMTPC (Building Materials and Technology Promotion Council), and BAI (Builders Association of India). Additionally, the Council of Architecture served as the Awareness Partner for the event, while IVS School of Design was the Education Partner.

India Interior Retailing featured sessions like ‘WHOLESALE 2.0: Future of Wholesale’ delving into the future of wholesale and distribution models, offering a futuristic approach to industry evolution. Esteemed panelists included Mr Chetan Kajaria, JMD, Kajaria Ceramics Ltd, Mr Rajesh Mittal, Chairman & MD, Greenply Industries Ltd, and Mr Raj Patel, Director, Royale Touche.

MATECIA hosted informative panel discussions under the Materials and Technology Conclave. These discussions explored key issues, including future industry needs, challenges posed by compulsory BIS standards, and the latest developments in wood panel industry resins and adhesives.

“MATECIA was coined in 2016 while I was creating WADE INDIA. It stands for MATERIALS for Construction, Interiors and Architecture. As me and my team were very busy in building the architecture platform, I wanted Pragathji to join. It took us four years to bring him onboard only after IIR conference was introduced,”

The visitor profile at MATECIA was strikingly diverse, encompassing architects, interior designers, dealers, distributors, showroom owners, manufacturers, consultants, builders, and a multitude of industry professionals, including structural engineers, project managers, and product designers. Moreover, it wasn’t just about the relevant visitors; even the exhibitors had the opportunity to connect with their fellow exhibitors as potential clients within the overall large supply chain.

Over the past two years, MATECIA has consistently made both visitors and exhibitors satisfied, fostering a sense of optimism and growth for all. MATECIA continues to shine as a beacon of business, innovation and collaboration in the building materials industry of India.
