EuroCucina 2024: Exploring the Future of Kitchen Innovation

FDT Bureau

EuroCucina 2024 shines a spotlight on the convergence of food, materials and technology, transforming kitchens into hubs of innovation. The exhibition, housed within the Salone del Mobile in Milan, features over 100 global brands unveiling cutting-edge advancements. This year’s focus is on reimagining kitchen spaces as multifunctional environments, integrating advanced materials and smart technology to enhance both performance and aesthetics. Here is a detailed report on FURNITURE DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY (FDT).

A highlight of the event is the All You Have Ever Wanted to Know About Food Design in Six Performances series, exploring the cultural significance of food through artistic expressions. From bread making rituals to environmental reflections, each performance offers a unique perspective on food's role in society.

In parallel, EuroCucina showcases the latest in kitchen technology and materials. Innovations range from integrated cooktops, ovens and hoods to vacuum-sealing systems that revolutionize food preservation. Brands like Neff introduced touchscreen-operated appliances with magnetic knobs for intuitive control. Barazza launched steam-cleaning ovens, while Eggersmann presented Skywalk, a monolithic kitchen island crafted from luxurious bronze and quartzite.

Materials play a pivotal role in kitchen design, with Stoneware disappearing hobs and stainless steel dominating professional-grade kitchens. Metalco’s Outerra brand pioneers outdoor kitchens with high-performance concrete and recycled materials, offering versatility and sustainability. Schuller collaborated with architect Francis Kere to create space-expanding kitchen islands, blending mirrored glass and bronze accents for a futuristic aesthetic. EuroCucina 2024 underscored the kitchen’s evolution into a dynamic space where culinary artistry, advanced technology, and innovative materials converge to redefine modern living.
