At Milan Design Week 2024, Samsung Electronics made a striking impression with its Newfound Equilibrium exhibition. The showcase exemplified Samsung’s innovative design philosophy, Samsung Design Identity 5.0: Essential∙Innovative∙Harmonious, which draws inspiration from people and envisions the future. With over 1,500 designers across seven global studios, Samsung continually refreshed its design language to stay relevant to its customers. Know more about it on FURNITURE DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY (FDT).
The exhibition had been set in the Leonardo da Vinci National Museum of Science and Technology in Milan, specifically in Le Cavallerizze. This venue, a harmonious blend of 16th-century architecture and modern design, perfectly mirrored Samsung’s ability to integrate the old with the new. Its journey started in the Essential area, which emphasized fundamental values and simplicity. This was evident in the sleek design of the Galaxy S24 series and practical home appliances like the all-in-one washer and dryer. Minimalist installations featuring translucent cubes and playful lighting further underscored the theme of essentialism.
Next was the Innovative section that showcased Samsung’s commitment to enhancing everyday life through technological advancements. Interactive displays responded to the proximity of visitors, much like Samsung’s smart TVs and adaptive vacuum cleaners. This area highlighted Samsung’s ambition to push the boundaries of technology to improve functionality and user experience.
The Harmonious section focused on the seamless integration of technology into daily life. Exhibits included the SmartThings ecosystem and the Music Frame, designed to enhance home environments without overwhelming them. Interactive LED displays mimiced natural events, inviting visitors to envision a world where technology coexists naturally with human and environmental needs. The exhibition concluded with the Infinite Dream and New Dawning spaces, celebrating the fusion of modern technology and traditional craftsmanship. Collaborations with artisans like MUTINA and ALPI illustrated this blend, showcasing the potential for technology to respect and incorporate artisanal values.
